History

Crown Hills was designed as a master-planned community on 217 acres in the mountain foothills east of San Diego.

The best recorded history about the development of Crown Hills can be found in an article that ran in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 04/13/1997 (see below.) It states that the development was originally started by another builder, but then taken over in 1993 by John Hensler, who formed RJT Builders and went on to complete the development.

Because of the innovative building technology coupled with the original affordable pricing, RJT received the “Building Innovation and Affordability Award” from HUD (Dept of Housing and Urban Development.)
